You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost.
Your right to an estimate
Under the law, healthcare providers must give patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including non-emergency items and services.
What is included
- An estimate of the total expected cost of any items or services.
- Available upon request or when you schedule a service.
- Provided in writing at least one business day before your appointment when applicable.
If your bill is higher
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill. Keep a copy of your estimate for your records.
