Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel symptoms can start at the wrist — or the neck. We check the whole nerve path to relieve the real source.

Carpal tunnel syndrome causes numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist. But the same nerve travels from the neck, so symptoms sometimes originate higher up the path.
Why we check the whole nerve path
Nerve compression in the neck or shoulder can mimic or worsen carpal tunnel, producing numbness and tingling like a pinched nerve. We examine from the neck to the wrist to find the true source.
Conservative care that often avoids surgery
We combine joint care, soft-tissue work, and rehabilitation to relieve pressure on the nerve and restore healthy movement — often helping patients avoid surgery.
What it feels like — and why it happens.
Common symptoms
- Numbness or tingling in the hand and fingers
- Weak or clumsy grip
- Symptoms worse at night
- Pain in the wrist or forearm
- Dropping objects
- Tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers
Common causes
- Median-nerve compression at the wrist
- Repetitive hand and wrist use
- Neck or shoulder nerve irritation
- Poor posture and ergonomics
- Swelling or inflammation
- Prior wrist injury
Who’s at risk — and when to get checked.
Risk factors
- Repetitive wrist and hand work
- Desk work with poor ergonomics
- Forward-head posture and neck strain
- Prior wrist or neck injury
- Pregnancy-related swelling
- Conditions causing fluid retention
When to seek care
- Numbness or tingling in the hand
- Grip weakness or dropping objects
- Symptoms that wake you at night
- Wrist or forearm pain
- Symptoms affecting work or daily tasks
- Progressive weakness or muscle wasting (seek prompt care)
From problem to outcome.
A clear, four-part path — so you always understand what’s happening and what comes next.
The Problem
Carpal tunnel syndrome arises when the median nerve is compressed — typically at the wrist, but sometimes irritated farther up at the neck or shoulder, which can mimic or compound it.
How We Evaluate
We test the median nerve along its full path, from the neck through the shoulder, elbow, and wrist, to locate exactly where it is being compressed.
How We Treat It
Care relieves nerve pressure with joint and soft-tissue work plus rehabilitation, while addressing posture and habits that aggravate the nerve.
Expected Outcome
Many patients improve with conservative care and avoid surgery, regaining comfortable hand function.
What progress looks like.
Every body is different, but here’s the general arc of care most patients follow.
Locate
Identify where the nerve is compressed.
Relieve
Reduce pressure and irritation.
Reinforce
Ergonomics and exercise to prevent recurrence.
Questions about carpal tunnel syndrome
Often, yes. Because the median nerve travels from the neck to the hand, we check the entire path and relieve compression wherever it occurs. Conservative care helps many patients improve and avoid surgery.
They can. Nerve irritation in the neck or shoulder can mimic or worsen carpal tunnel symptoms. Our wrist-to-neck examination helps identify the true source.
Many people improve with conservative care, especially when treated early. We focus on relieving nerve pressure and correcting contributing factors, and refer out if findings suggest surgery is needed.

“Excellent Arlington Heights Chiropractor. Although great chiropractors can help us after injuries or with symptom relief (migraines, carpal tunnel, neck pain, etc.), that's not the only reason they exist. They're there to help people get into a healthy, life-long pattern of bodily upkeep. Just as cars need mechanics to keep running smoothly, our bodies need great chiropractors to keep us healthy and strong. Dr. Matt is a great chiropractor. My family has been seeing him and his staff for quite some time now. There aren't even enough words to express how helpful he's been. Not only is he an excellent practitioner, but he really cares for his patients and he's become a good friend. Dr. Matt has a family-focused approach that is warm and immediately welcoming. He gets to know each of his patients so that he has a real personal connection with them. When I go to him, I know I'm not just a number and a name. I'm a person that he wants to help, a person that he wants to see healthy and happy. For that reason, he offers his wealth of knowledge to help me get on track, not just in his office, but throughout my week. All of the staff at Hawkeye Chiropractic share the same outlook. I highly recommend making an appointment and meeting them. You won't be disappointed.”

“This was my first time going to a chiropractor, I was quite nervous and unsure what to expect. I was experiencing pain in my neck, shoulders, back and wrists. I was told that I was suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both wrists. Surprisingly, my symptoms disappeared after a few weeks of treatment. Going is believing. I am a patient for life now. The office staff is very friendly and welcoming, even the office fish is smiling. Office has great touches that will make anyone feel at ease. A+ all around.”
